Vitamin C Me

I'm sick. But the task master back there said I had to come into work and spread my germs around.

Ahem. I’m sick. But the task master back there said I had to come into work and spread my germs around. [Coughs] Something about how the show must go on, or something like that…I need to take some Vitamin C… [pours out multitudes of tablets]

While there’s really no conclusive evidence that Vitamin C reduces the length or severity of the common cold, it’s interesting to note that lots of people take it when they’re sick…

Or when they’re starting to get sick…

Or when they think they might BE sick…

Or when they already ARE sick…

[Blows nose]

We instinctively pop a pill or reach for the OJ – in fact most homeopathic remedies, like Airborne, are loaded with it.

Some animals take a different approach. They manufacture their own Vitamin C…out of glucose. You know, sugar. Humans don’t. We take little orange pills that taste like tang.

Animals that don’t manufacture it eat 20 to 80 times the recommended amounts for humans. Maybe I should take some more…

Guys with white lab coats found that, while it doesn’t necessarily keep people from getting sick, people that took a massive dose, like 8000 mg at the beginning of their illness, got over it faster.

Of course, the jury is still out. Others say taking it regularly will boost your immune system and prevent illness – but that’s kind of hard to prove.

Wait a minute – is it possible to OD on vitamin C?

I’m pretty sure it’s possible to OD on just about anything, but Vitamin C is fairly non-toxic. Studies on little guys in white coats showed that it’ll kill you if you eat WAY too much of it – little lab rats.

But I’d have to eat, like, four of THESE [holds up large container], not these [refers to tablet] – THESE. That’s a LOT of Vitamin C.

I guess it’s up to you to decide whether Vitamin C is a glorified placebo or not – I really don’t care. All I know is I’m calling in sick…Oh wait, I’m already here.

I think I need some more.
