Grant wrote in a while back and asked us to do a show on smoking. Not how to smoke, how to quit. And we love Grant because Grant did all the leg work for this one. Well almost all the leg work. You’re awesome Grant.

The most surprising bit for us was that statistically speaking you have a better chance of quitting by spontaneously going cold turkey than anything else. That is not to say that people haven’t been successful using other methods. like patches or hypnosis.

[Trying to hypnotise] You are feeling very very nicotine-y… not nicotine-y.

So here’s your chance. Stop! Right now. ‘Cause statistically speaking tomorrow doesn’t work. ‘Cause it never comes. It’s always today. So grab all your cigarette and flush them down the toilet. Or make them into little army men and burn them out in the backyard. Just don’t inhale. Swear to me you’ll never take another puff. Did you do it? – I can’t tell.

Okay, now that you’re on the road to recovery make sure you drink enough grapefruit juice you pop and realize that you are like an alcoholic. A smoke-oholic and there is no such thing as an innocent puff. [Dazed] Second hand… so tempting. We have a link down below to a very good motivational site with heaps of information on kicking the habit.

Is that it? Are we done with this one? No! there’s more. Grant’s stuff was good but we had to light up our own… two cents. Mary-ju-wana what is mary-ju-wana… oh. Marijuana smokers, did you know that you are way more likely to get lung cancer by puffing cannabis than tobacco? 5 times more likely. – dude, you’re joshing me right? – No, I’m not. But I do find it funny that everyone is up in arms about the evils of smoking and big tobacco when they seem to want to legalize marijuana. Do you know what will happen. Well, you’ll be even more likely to die of cancer and guess who will instantly become the leading industry vendors of mary jane.

Thank you Philip Morse. This weed is cirtified R J Nabisco. Virginia slim pot… for the ladies. All natural western weed by Marlboro… live like a cowboy, smoke like a hippy. Yehaw.

Does anyone else sees the irony here? i mean, suing one out of existance because of its damaging consequences to health while we’re trying to legalize the one that’s even worse for you. Of course you could make them all illegal… just like prohibition. ‘Cause that worked.

Recently I heard somebody comparing tobacco companies and smoking relating deaths to the holocaust. Don’t be stupid people. I don’t think anybody willing went into a concentration camp. Nobody is forcing you to keep buying them by the carton. Load me up.

It’s common knowledge that tobacco is bad for you. The first warning labels showed up in 1965. And if you were 18 and started smoking back then you should already be dead. Unless you’re like George Burns and all those cigars and alcohol actually work as a preservative to keep you somehow held together unnaturally long… He may have been an alien.

[Trying to hypnotise] You are feeling very un-addicted. You will not get fat. Your breath smells wonderful.

The link to the Pot Study on Yahoo News shown in the video is no longer valid. Here is a portion of what the study it referred to said.

The alarming results of a New Zealand study published in the February 1, 2008, issue of the European Respiratory Journal indicate that the carcinogenic properties of cannabis smoke are many times greater than previously understood.

“The major finding from the present study was that for each joint-yr [the equivalent of one joint per day for one year] of cannabis exposure, the risk of lung cancer increased by 8%, after adjustment for confounding variables including tobacco smoking.” The authors then make an enlightening comparison: “A major differential risk between cannabis and cigarette smoking was observed, with one joint of cannabis being similar to 20 cigarettes for risk of lung cancer.”

What does this mean in practical terms? There are 20 cigarettes to the “pack,” and the CDC classifies a “heavy smoker” as one who smokes 25 or more cigarettes a day. A marijuana smoker who smokes one joint per day could therefore likewise be on the borderline of being considered a “heavy smoker.”

Previous studies have sometimes shown varied results regarding lung cancer and marijuana use. The authors of this study explore some reasons for the inconsistencies and, apparently referring to the known effect of memory loss with marijuana use, note that “recall of the amount of cannabis smoked over a long period of time may have been difficult for some subjects.”

The study concludes, “This issue is of major public health importance, due to the prevalent use of cannabis globally and lung cancer being responsible for over a million deaths in the world each year.” And on an individual level, this gives each person yet one more reason to avoid this harmful drug.
