We’re no strangers to secret societies. When we were younger, Camera Guy was leader of the high school band mafia. I just had this weird, quasi-gang sign that I’d do. And as every mafia Don and gang leader knows, you’ve gotta take care of the family or ‘homies’ first. And we’ve neglected our secret society waaaaayyy too long. So for the next two weeks we’ll be putting up special material for the 22′s. 2 of us?!?!? 2 weeks?!?!?!? 22′s?!?!?!? Sounds like a conspiracy! And it is.
What this means for most of you is that the show will be on hold for a little while. But that’s OK, there are plenty of old favorites for you to catch up on. You know, like Ultimate Power, or Mexican Standoff, or Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon… not the movie, the show. And for those of you who are still trying to join 22, even though you can’t, here’s a little bit of advice. You need to think of something fun, or creative, or useful to do. And then we’ll probably maybe say yes if we feel like it. That’s the way to join. Begging will not work. Neither will bribes or donations. Unless they’re really big. You probably don’t have that much money.
Saying that you’ll watch the show and tell all your friends about it is very thoughtful, and we appreciate it, but the truth is, we kind of expect it of you. That was the deal, remember? You don’t have to donate, but you have to watch and tell everyone you know about it. Here are a few things that were suggested that got the thumbs up from us: Naming an explosion after us, (the What you ought to *explosion noise*) Creating and carrying a what-you-ought-to-know flag everywhere you go on your summer vacation, sending us a cookie in the shape of a giant brain, building a working (maybe not) cardboard box time machine. And blackmailing us with a domain name we should have bought in the first place.
And it doesn’t have to be for us. One guy said he would quit smoking. Who knew that that would get him in? But it’s gotta be good. Don’t be discouraged if we don’t respond to your first effort. Just keep on trying. It’s also very important if you’re trying again, to make your idea different than the last one. Because if we didn’t respond to the first one, we probably won’t respond to the second one if it’s the same idea.
So come on! Shake the lead out! You can think of something cool, or fun, or useful to do! And you have to do something to get in. No one is excempt. I mean, one of our own brothers is still trying to get in. This is it! This is your big chance! For the next two weeks, we’re going to try and help you achieve your lifetime goal and get into the secret society that is 22! And for everyone that doesn’t want to join? We’ll see you on the 18th.
Oh, and by the way, adding more people to 22 doesn’t change the nature of the group. The new secret is how many people actually belong. And you’ll never know. We mean it. Unlike the ‘seeing-my-pants’ thing, you will never know. I’m not sure that we even know.
