The only good bacon is the kind that is crunchy enough to break apart with a snap when you bend it. I want my meat dead and well-cooked, I don’t want to risk an entree moo-ing (or oinking in this case) on my plate before I eat it!! But I like the oven idea of baking bacon!! I’m going to try that!!

OK, here’s your bacon episode.

The best way to cook bacon is this:
1) Pre-heat oven to 425 degrees F
2) Line a cookie sheet with a layer of foil
3) lay down a single layer of bacon
4) cover bacon with another layer of foil (to stop splatter, no need to seal)
5) bake for 6 minutes
6) turn bacon and pour off any grease
7) bake for 6 minutes (for crisp bacon, longer if you like really crisp bacon)

This is the perfect way to cook bacon and you can cook a lot of it at once. Be careful removing the sheet at the end if the sheet is shallow because you might spill the grease into the oven.

its a pretty simple explanation for why the best tasting food is ‘bad’ for you. for 99% of the time we have existed as a species, getting enough food was a constant struggle. you couldn’t walk down to the supermarket once a week, but actually had to catch or find every meal in the wild. hence, those humans that developed a taste for high fat, high calorie foods had a better chance of avoiding starvation long enough to produce offspring and pass on their fat loving genes. of course we no longer struggle to get food today, and heart disease has replaced starvation as the top killer, so these high fat foods are now considered ‘bad’. unfortunately, evolution is way too slow for us to adapt to these changes.

JD: Actually it would be a good episode about why tasty things are bad for you. I heard it has something to do with that it was good for cavemen to keep up their strength and all.

Anyway, I mostly eat vegetarian (food) because my girlfriend happens to be a veggie. Although sometimes when she is away I make something meaty for myself.

I liked the video but the biggest problem people have with cooking bacon is not high heat but rather it’s not realizing how much it continues to cook after removing it from the heat. We tend to only remove food from the heat after it appears to be fully cooked but hot bacon, like fish, will cook for an additional 2 to 3 minutes after it’s taken off the burner. So crank up the heat and remove the bacon when it’s within a few minutes of where you want it done and you’ll be enjoying a bacon sarnie in less than 10 minutes instead of 20 and more importantly it won’t be burnt to a crisp because you waited until it looked done to remove it from the heat. Did I mention I used to be a chef? Restaurant cooks don’t have the time to use low heat so you learn a lot of tricks :)

I recently discovered your videos and love them. This episode was…actually not bad at all. I think I will try making bacon in the oven because I do like the taste, just not the fat you get when you make it in a pan on the stove.
