Irritable male syndrome or man ms-ing.
The last show may have been for kids, but this one… isn’t. Dan Depanny writes, “Hi, remember me? The Stalker Show prize winner? Anyway, this suggestion comes from my friend. Here is my show suggestion: Irritable Male Syndrome (Man MS-ing)”
First of all, I don’t think it’s even appropriate that you’re calling it man MS-ing, because the M part, as you well know, doesn’t even apply. I need a hug. It’s called IMS, and that sounds funny because it sounds like PMS which makes you think of some kind of cyclical hormonal thing that makes men go nuts every month. But that would be…misleading.
Well, as best we can tell, there IS a condition called IMS, it Is hormonal, and it’s absolutely nothing like PMS. First of all, male hormones fluctuate hourly, not every 28 days. We’re like this. It’s all a part of being a man. You get used to it. IMS is based on the idea that low testosterone OR relatively high concentrations of estrogen with a heap of stress piled on can cause some men to become really, really, really cranky. And angry. And distant.
I don’t wanna talk about it. Ever.
I show a whole range of emotions-anger, rage, hate…hate. First one to attribute that quote in the comments gets into 22.
The trouble is no one really knows what the right levels for testosterone should be. That makes this whole thing kinda sketchy scientifically. Here’s another problem; most studies for IMS are anecdotal or sociological rather than biochemical. That means they ask people how they felt instead of checking their blood.
So the last time your wife was nagging you, how did you feel? The only IMS study that we found that actually measured testosterone levels was done on sheep. In Scotland. Maa. Ello lassie. And in my pure and perfect world, men’s hormonal levels and the behavior of sheep have absolutely nothing to do with each other. I’m an idealist. So, the sheep lost interest or became nervous or withdrawn when their testosterone levels dropped. Sounds like a dead ringer for PMS.
So do men have hormonal cycles? Sure. Most things that are biological do. Everything we’ve read about Irritable Male Syndrome says that it’s anything but cyclical. All of the stories and experiences described a downward spiral of insecurity or anger. People watching their relationships going down in flames. And I don’t mean just any flames, I mean like, action movie flames.
So your man’s freaking out and getting all hormonal and you wonder what you can do about it. Here’s one reccomendation: put him on a diet. That’s right-no food for you, fattie. Not until you’ve said three things nice about me. If you can’t say anything nice, you won’t eat anything at all. Estrogen is stored in fat cells, and losing some of that tub might actually help him balance out his emotional distress. Plus, he’ll feel more manly. And taking out your frustrations on weights and atheletic equipment is very theraputic. And non-criminal. And you’ll feel more manly.
This is you. Your behavior. Looking into IMS, it seems more like a rare chemical or psychological condition than a common male hormonal cycle. After all, symptoms for IMS can include exhastion, unexplained weight changes, gall bladder or gut problems, hypoglycemia, snoring, incontinence, an elevated PSA, high cholesterol, bone loss, hair loss-not pattern baldness-impaired thyroid fuction, loss of muscle or stamina skin problems and irritability.
We’re both men with hormones. I don’t think we have any of those symptoms. Science fiction writer Robert A. Heinlein is reported to have said “A week before their periods, women act the way men do all the time.” I couldn’t disagree more. But what do you think? Put it in the comments.

Well, yes the middle of Utah is a desert that is uninhabitable and southern utah doesn't have a lot there through the middle (maybe the corners have something) but Northern Utah cannot just be called boring.graceofbass [22]
