So I'm having a little trouble getting into the holiday spirit...
Okay, so I’m having a little trouble getting into the holiday spirit this year. It just doesn’t feel like Christmas. Probably because it’s seventy degrees outside and no one’s sent me any presents. And because I don’t have a Christmas tree. But that’s because when I went to the Christmas tree lot, the trees there were selling for between twenty-five and sixty bucks. Boy, did I go to the wrong lot. Sixty bucks for a tree? That’s not gonna happen. I think I need a cheaper way to get into the holiday mood. Cheap equals free. And something that solves the tree problem too.
Most of what I like about having a tree at Christmas time is the smell. Christmas-it’s like a drug to me. Kids, don’t do pine. Some Christmas tree lots give away the left over cuttings from their trees. It saves them from having to dispose of them all, so if you want your place to smell like pine you could pick up a million of those little Christmas tree air fresheners OR you could go to the lot and pick up a few of these. You bring them home and you pull all the needles of of them, then you get an old beat up pot that you don’t really care about, and you put the needles and some water into the pot and let them boil for, y’know, as long as it takes. Bring it to a boil and then let it go back down to low heat. Faster than you can decideto be naughty or nice, your whole place’ll smell just like Christmas. Maybe you can throw in a few other Christmassy spices.
But don’t let all the water evaporate, or you’ll have a big burning pine needly holiday mess. Only you can prevent Christmas fires. Don’t worry-the smell will last, and last, and last, and last. It’s like the next best thing to having a Christmas tree. And it’s free.
Smell problem, solved, and if you want a free tree, you can take a page from my Grandfather who used to drill holes in the trunk of his Christmas tree to artifically insert branches into the bare patches. So I guess if you’re really amibitious, and cheap, you can get a stick and a whole bunch of free branches and make a Frankentree. This isn’t just good for people with no Christmas tree, it’s good for people whose Christmas tree is made out of plastic. It’s kind of…almost a tree. I dunno, I think it kinda looks like a tree. C’mon, stand up. There ya go.

Loving the Christmas Season videos. As Russ almost suggested, we need a video on Christmas movies. You know, Muppet Christmas Carol (Michael Caine!), Charlie Brown (Charlie Brown!), Garfield (etc!)...Nospinplease

There's christmas trees everywhere in my house and none of them are real. All of them are artificial, so maybe the pine needle smell will help. To be completely honest, I'm not really in the Christmas spirit yet. I should be. I have no reason not to be. I don't ... moreMeandering {207}
I think as we get older the whole Christmas feeling begins to fade. :( I do not have a real tree, but I did buy (5 years ago) a fake tree that was discounted so much I almost took it out of the store for free. It ... moreGlenn [22]
@ who said, The pine smell will actually last for a while after you boil it. The more you boil it the longer the smell lasts. There is one thing your should keep in mind though. DON'T THROW OUT THE WATER! That where most of the ... moreIngrid [22]
Marc and the brothers and everybody else saying that getting in the holiday spirit is hard when it's not cold. Picture yourself living in Australia, it's almost summer there :Pwho said
So, for the smell to keep smelling for a long time, do you have to keep boiling the water or does it just keep smelling for a while after the burner is turned off?Mark F [22]
I agree, it is difficult to get in the Christmas Spirit when it's warm all through December...I lived in SoCal for a while and it never felt like Christmas. I like finding a radio station that plays Christmas music and leaving it on a lot. Oh, and buying Starbucks in ... moreCrazyDave

marc is right – looks like a palm tree. Is that how they do Christmas trees down there in San Diego? Where do you put the star if there’s not point at the top? :)

Or, instead of boiling sap and getting crap all over your hands, or drilling holes in a stick and getting crap all over your hands, just gather the free branches, and put them in a pretty plant pot. Et viola: Christmas Shrubbery! One that looks nice. And ... moremarc

There is something wrong with the vid. I watched it this morning at home and it worked fine, but now when I click play, it loads for a while and then I get an advertisement and then the end of the show. It does this in both firefox and IE. Also, I am really wondering what the Day1 stands for, does this mean we will get more shows this week? I hope so :P Anyway, what I wanted to say was that I won't have a x-mas tree this year. Maybe a tiny fake one. With only 16m2 (don't know in ... lots moreOxymoronX
Like you I'm also cheap so I always go for the "Inexpensive Spending" (Oxymoron I Think?)! So years and years I've been pulling out the same artificial tree that might have cost me a bundle once but after a few years it had paid for it self, and for the ... moreChristian [22]
Did Grandpa really do that? dose he still? Just come to south west Oregon and get any tree you want for $5.Teagan [22]
We'll just stick with a pine scented candle, thanks.Russ [22]
Your "almost a Christmas tree" at the end reminds me of a Charlie Brown Christmas Special. All you need is a few decorations, some tinsel and lights, and a little plastic star to go on top and -- wah-la! -- totally a Christmas tree.
