It is 4 degres and factor in wind chill, its about -15. We didnt get our tree till the 20th. Its so small its on a dresser. The presents are in a drawer.

There’s christmas trees everywhere in my house and none of them are real. All of them are artificial, so maybe the pine needle smell will help. To be completely honest, I’m not really in the Christmas spirit yet. I should be. I have no reason not to be. I don’t know, it kind of seems like it came a little too fast. Give me one more week and I’m sure I’ll have more spirit.

I think as we get older the whole Christmas feeling begins to fade. :( I do not have a real tree, but I did buy (5 years ago) a fake tree that was discounted so much I almost took it out of the store for free. It works REALLY well! The lights, tinsel and ornaments the tree comes off looking great every year. However we are short of the whole smell thing, but there are candles. Merry Christmas!

@ who said, The pine smell will actually last for a while after you boil it. The more you boil it the longer the smell lasts. There is one thing your should keep in mind though. DON’T THROW OUT THE WATER! That where most of the aromatic compounds are contained after you boil the needles. You can put more water in but don’t throw any of the old water out. Its not like you’re going to be drinking it or anything so it doesn’t really matter if it looks strangely brown (and it will).

So, for the smell to keep smelling for a long time, do you have to keep boiling the water or does it just keep smelling for a while after the burner is turned off?

I agree, it is difficult to get in the Christmas Spirit when it’s warm all through December…I lived in SoCal for a while and it never felt like Christmas. I like finding a radio station that plays Christmas music and leaving it on a lot. Oh, and buying Starbucks in those holiday cups…that always makes me feel like Christmas.

Or, instead of boiling sap and getting crap all over your hands, or drilling holes in a stick and getting crap all over your hands, just gather the free branches, and put them in a pretty plant pot. Et viola: Christmas Shrubbery! One that looks nice. And not too expensive. Then, you get another one, only slightly higher so you get a two-level effect with a little path running down the middle.

There is something wrong with the vid. I watched it this morning at home and it worked fine, but now when I click play, it loads for a while and then I get an advertisement and then the end of the show. It does this in both firefox and IE.
Also, I am really wondering what the Day1 stands for, does this mean we will get more shows this week? I hope so :P
Anyway, what I wanted to say was that I won’t have a x-mas tree this year. Maybe a tiny fake one. With only 16m2 (don’t know in square feet) a tree in your room is not really an option. Besides, no way I am risking my bunny getting her hands (ow I mean teeth) on those branches. They are toxic for her.
So no Xmas tree for me this year.

Like you I’m also cheap so I always go for the “Inexpensive Spending” (Oxymoron I Think?)! So years and years I’ve been pulling out the same artificial tree that might have cost me a bundle once but after a few years it had paid for it self, and for the smell problem i might have to use your idea. Thanks for the tip again and a happy holiday to you and the whole WYOTK fmaily!!!

Your “almost a Christmas tree” at the end reminds me of a Charlie Brown Christmas Special. All you need is a few decorations, some tinsel and lights, and a little plastic star to go on top and — wah-la! — totally a Christmas tree.
