No, your Christmas tree is not supposed to look perfect.
No, your Christmas tree is not supposed to look perfect. That’s what the tree at the mall is for. Yours is supposed to have crafty projects on it that your kid’s first grade teachers came up with so they could keep all those little, hyperactive kids busy for a few extra days before winter break started. And now with the public school system’s tossed your offspring back into your lap for a few weeks, why not pull the same trick?
Wal-mart, Micheals, any store with a craft section’s a good place to get started. Pick up a little bit of wire and some beads and you’re in business. Just crimp the wire with some pliers and start stringing on your beads. Pink handles. Home Depot doesn’t sell ones like this. These were definitely purchased at an arts and crafts store. What? It’s pink. It’s gotta double as a beauty product.
Once you’ve loaded up the wire with pretty beads, crimp the top and bend it into whatever shape you like. You can make it into a minty candy cane or a springy springy thing from the Dr. Seuss books. And for those who are afraid of making their own shapes, you can buy kits for making stars or snowflakes or something. They’re spiny things. They look like they’re poisonous.
The most important thing is to make sure you turn it into a competition. Kids love competitions. Everyone goes away feeling so good. I’m sorry Billy, but your ornament’s no good. And somebody’s gotta be the loser this year. Encourage the children to outdo each other, and with a little extra motivation from you, they’ll keep themselves busy for hours.
Seriously, I need five minutes alone to wrap your presents. Can’t you find even something to do? Hours of entertainment. And it even works on bored adults. Now that’s the spirit of the holidays.
Can we be done? These lights are burning my skin.

Ya, I love the Christmas lights. So stylish! My parents used to do that to me, hahaha. Let's do a project! That is probably why I am so crafty now.idiotonuni

I'm not one for arts and crafts, but this would be great for the kids to do to give me a few moments peace! Actually, we do enjoy the holidays as a family and can't wait for it to get started (I have all of next week off!). ... moresteph {207}

Um, no. I don't do crafts. Anything involving glue, beads or stuff like that doesn't go well in my house. My kids don't do independent beading. Somehow all those beads would end up in the nerf gun and jam it. Then, it's MOMMMMMY!!!!!! Can you fix ... moreKel [22]
http://whipup.net/ has a bunch of ornament tutorials thrown in there this month (and a lot of knitting, if you do that...) and here's another blogosphere list of relatively-easy-to-make ornaments: http://howaboutorange.blogspot.com/2008/12/more-ornaments-to-make.htmllucy29
Why is it around Christmas time, everyone likes to buy that so-called crappy toy that seems to be the "hit of the season" and everyone just has to have it or else?who said
Our tree is filled with years of the kid's school ornaments. Martha Stewart would kringe at the sight of it, but I love it. I am the room mom at school this year so it is my responsability to come up with the corny Christmas tree ornament. ... moreLampworker
