Just as advertising causes behavioural changes (or it wouldn’t be done), putting all these shows out there influences how people think. It’s not simply straight supply and demand, just as advertising for a product is not based on the demand – it creates it.

I’ve watched a few of these now and I’m just not that impressed with the “critical thinking” going on here.

Next, your statement that there is not a “vast” support of right wing politics” is self-defeated later in your post. While the word vast is subjective, 3/8th translates to 114+ million people which, though it is not a majority, I think most people would agree IS “vast”.

I don’t get the connection you are trying to make with bottlenecks. In the case of monopoly (if you assume that is what right-wing media is) the costs generally go down for the producer, but prices go up for the consumer. I am not sure which “cost” you mean so how it relates. Additionally, 37.5% is an enormous market share in business or politics. I am not sure how you can say in the same breathe that there is a “lack of overall demand” if 3/8 of a market wants something.

Your post takes a decidedly bias (and impossible to prove) stance when you make the assertion that “left-wing extremist” is looked upon more favorably than right-wing. Historical shifts of power between the two extremes I think argues otherwise. I think it shows most people are much more centered than either of the extremes and when extremist kick it into high gear the majority of centrist in a democracy push back.

But perhaps most importantly you seem to be operating under the false assumption that this video is somehow championing one side over the other. Check our record. Consider the past shows. We have made fun of, take shots at and repeatedly display a healthy distrust for both extremes of the political spectrum.
Neither one is ALWAYS right. Hopefully you can be a little more objective and open minded in the future.

You’re right that supply and demand makes things as they are, but you’re wrong in assuming that there’s a vast love of right wing politics.

While indeed, the one major right-wing pundit is paid a good deal more than any of the left-wing pundits, you’re forgetting that there -are- many more left-wing pundits than right wing pundits to begin with. This is because the market for the left wing, as well as for centralists, is a fiercer battle than the right wing, where a single station runs what is comprable to a monopoly.

As supply and demand dictates, when supplies are offered through a competativve market, the cost drops. When supplies are offered through a singular bottleneck, on the other hand, the costs skyrocket. Right wingers have less choice because the right-wing extremism is looked at less favorably than left wing extremism (with some notable exceptions, like abortion). Because of this lack of overall demand, they must recieve their supply from fox, and rush…who in turn make a killing on the 3/8ths of america that is right-winged.

So, whats the difference here? Its that centralists, like nbc, or left-wingers, like cnn, have a larger customer base, while right-winger extremists have a slightly smaller but more ardent customer base.

And Scott is right i think about the news shows vs opinion shows on fox. O’Reilly is pretty mid line most times.

Also, I think it’s odd that when some people “Follow the Money”, and they see it tends to land on Right Wing uh… Pundits, they immediately assume that as proof that said pundits are evil psycho conspirators out to destroy the nation. But when you consider that the amount of money they get is kind of like a vote from the populace that what they have to offer is desired, it becomes a head-scratcher when you line that up with political leaders who *have* gotten the popular vote, but unlike these pundits [snicker], we know little (if any) of what they really believe in. And whether or not *they* are evil psycho conspirators out to destroy the nation is a discussion for another place and time…like a blog in the backwater part of the internet you read and comment on to waste time…UNlike WYOTK. :)
