Not living in the USA I will just say this.
Transparency is not only good but neccessary in any honest democracy. Whenever these things go on behind closed doors it means that politicians are placing their own popularity above the good of the country and that can never be right."

Goodness, I take a few months off and then you guys go and change everything. Loved the show. I couldn't watch the SOTU address before and I don't think I can stand to watch it now. Its all the same. Spin, avoid and dodge what's really going on. Oh and lies, we can't forget that. There is 1 good thing out of the SOTU address and that is this show's version of it. Nice job bro.'s!

A lot of interesting comments... Hmm...

First, I want to say that even though the majority of this episode dealt with more of the effects of this presidency, I really appreciated the part at the end about transparency. Yeah, one choice of the President's may have been bad, or another may have just been foolish, but in the end, it all comes down to one thing: Honesty. I personally don't agree with most of the things President Obama does or believes in, but I would happily take an honest president with whom I disagree on every political decision, than a dishonest president who outwardly makes every political choice I would want him to. Unfortunately, as of now, President Obama is doing things I disagree with, *and* he's dishonest. So, Brothers Winn, I completely agree that the way our president can change things around for the better is increasing transparency on every level possible. If/When that day comes, I sure won't agree with everything he does, but my respect for him will go through the roof. And if, at that point, the majority of Americans like what he's doing, then I will be very happy to have an honest president whom I disagree with.

And second, there are two things you said in a previous post that I'd like to cover:

"Every president takes on big issues. Every one of them. So why does Obama deserve any special consideration? When Bush was president we made fun of him a bit. Why should Obama be any different? Yes, he has three more years. So what? That is no reason to withhold critiquing his efforts so far in hopes they will improve."

and,

"We never tore him down or made fun of him personally like some do. We didn’t say he is evil or stupid or bent of destroying the country. We didn’t judge him at all. We poked fun, yes. We do that because its funny. But we also offered something we believe is helpful. A campaign promise that would leave a great legacy and I think at this point constructive criticism is not only warranted, but absolutely necessary."

You, The Brothers Winn, take on big issues in this show. And I think I speak for everyone here when I say that we don't want "to withhold critiquing [your] efforts so far in hopes they will improve." Again, I liked this episode, but others here haven't, and in some certain insignificant ways I disagree with them. But with that aside, I do think that everyone (or just about everyone) here wants to offer "something [they] believe is helpful...that would leave a great legacy [for WYOTK]", and that "constructive criticism is not only warranted, but absolutely necessary." I don't know how you've taken the things people have said about this episode, but I thought it was worth making the point to listen objectively to the criticism coming in your direction. You may already be doing just that, and the whole second-half of this post is for nothing, but like I said, I felt it was worth mentioning.

And thanks for all the great shows, not just this one!

Well, there isn't much I want to say.... I thought the show had some points, but I'm way off American political base to respond constructively. At least Obama has got some charisma... our "President" looks like Harry Potter...

The difference between bush and obama:

The bush comments came after he had multiple years to prove his ineptitude. As my comment mentioned...why not wait til obama proves his to move in for the kill?

I did indeed recognize the sarcasm, but would you argue the cynical nature of the episode?

I thought you guys were coming back, but...instead of shows with great tips on random things, and how to information...there's nothing but political cynicism so far. Where's the WYTK I got hooked on in the beginning?

@ Lodinkinnin - All the news channels dissects the president's speech. We thought prognostication would be more interesting.
Also saying he wasn't going to say things was clearly tongue in cheek sarcasm. Sorry if it wasn't clear. These were obviously points he had to address in one way or another, but they are also as yet unfulfilled or broken campaign promises (like bringing home the troops within one year of his inauguration).

Every president takes on big issues. Every one of them. So why does Obama deserve any special consideration" When Bush was president we made fun of him a bit. Why should Obama be any different? Yes, he has three more years. So what? That is no reason to withhold critiquing his efforts so far in hopes they will improve. He has squandered a large portion of his political capital and credibility on the wrong things and I will not support everything he says blindly. Do I want him to be a great president? Absolutely. We could use more great ones. But if he continues in the same vein for the next 3 years, little will change for the better. I am not going to just sit here and hope he gets it right. Sometimes voters need to remind those they have elected which of their promises are most important. Transparency would benefit everyone - no matter where you are on the political spectrum. So why shouldn't I let him know what people like me want.

We never tore him down or made fun of him personally like some do. We didn't say he is evil or stupid or bent of destroying the country. We didn't judge him at all. We poked fun, yes.
@Evilkritter
Actually, you may just be stupid. :p
As Brothers Winn pointed out, he used different terms, but the topics were the same. Although the show was a bit more harsh in language than usual, it was more directly truthful regarding the political situation at the moment.

Lots of voters believed that once Obama was elected that their part was through, that he would solve their problems. Before the election, Obama had to run a tight ship, lest voters switch allegiances and vote for McCain. Now that he's elected he can get away with bending some the promises that seemed so certain in 2008. The DNC is well aware of this and has been using Obama as an obvious crutch for popularity boost. Consider that when the Massachusetts election was all but lost, they sent in Obama to campaign against Brown. Allow me to stress: They sent in the President of the United States, who was working on Afghanistan, Iraq, Health Care, Bank Policy, The Fed, and a host of other issues, to campaign for a minimal level senator who couldn't be bothered to campaign for herself. What people don't seem to understand is that if this Democratic Republic is going to serve the people, the people are going to have to be educated enough on the issues to know exactly what it is they want and what the repercussions of those decisions will be.

This brings us to what the Brothers Winn are supporting, for Obama to keep a particular promise of transparency. This will facilitate the weeding of corruption from our government. Remember, the Democrats until recently had the vaunted Super-Majority of Congress. They were able to ram through any bill they wanted, but claimed that they were being held back by Republicans. If those bills were really that important, they could have pushed them through without a care to the RNC. This brings me to an indictment that several have begun putting forth on the internet. If one does not stand against a stronger opponent despite righteous cause, it's called cowardice. If one does not stand against a weaker cause, it's more properly described as corruption.

I tend to believe that the Democrats are suffering more from ineffectiveness and political infighting, having been elected on the ticket of "Not being Republicans." This can be evidenced by Obama's catchall of "if you don't like what I'm doing, think about all that stuff that Bush did." He's a nice punching bag because the media beat on him for so many years that you will be hard-pressed to fin anyone who will support anything that happened under the Bush administration.

Remember that in his address Obama had to draw on not just the Bush card, but on Michelle's anti-obesity program; he had canvass all of the problems that we are facing and leave an implementation that the Republicans were wholly responsible. In this regard, I call a overall victory in favor of the Brothers Winn for largely calling what was covered in the speech.

P.S. Though Obama talked about the stimulus, he covered himself by stating that he "hated it." This allows him to move things that are popular but "necessary." Remember: "There is no disaster that immediate, decisive, wrong action cannot make worse."

If those bills were really that important, they could have pushed them through without a care to the RNC. This brings me to an indictment that several have begun putting forth on the internet. If one does not stand against a stronger opponent despite righteous cause, it’s called cowardice. If one does not stand against a weaker cause, it’s more properly described as corruption.

I tend to believe that the Democrats are suffering more from ineffectiveness and political infighting, having been elected on the ticket of “Not being Republicans.” This can be evidenced by Obama’s catchall of “if you don’t like what I’m doing, think about all that stuff that Bush did.” He’s a nice punching bag because the media beat on him for so many years that you will be hard-pressed to fin anyone who will support anything that happened under the Bush administration.

Remember that in his address Obama had to draw on not just the Bush card, but on Michelle’s anti-obesity program; he had canvass all of the problems that we are facing and leave an implementation that the Republicans were wholly responsible. In this regard, I call a overall victory in favor of the Brothers Winn for largely calling what was covered in the speech.

P.S. Though Obama talked about the stimulus, he covered himself by stating that he “hated it.” This allows him to move things that are popular but “necessary.” Remember: “There is no disaster that immediate, decisive, wrong action cannot make worse.”

Aha! so that was it.

Well, lets keep this short, then:

I think the cynicism is pretty strong for the first(?) episode back, guys. Especially since holding off a day and watching would have shown all of the points answered fairly well. Just remember: the president you're taking shots at is taking on some big issues. He's got 3 more years...lets see what he can do with them, before judging.

Now, I could be stupid, but I believe that Obama's speech, surprisingly, was drastically different then what you predicted. I really do appreciate having a President you can't predict with cynicism.

@wolfman2525

In our show called "Hail to the Chief" we did a similar play on words saying something about taking a shot at the president, playing it up in the video like we would get in huge trouble for the double entendre.

Then one of our crazy viewers on F-Tube posted this:

"Hay you ^&%# &%$ #$@^! i don't give a $#@% @#$% how much you think our entire government works.(obviously not? a lot)every president should be respected because they are the protector of your rights which by the way if you didn't have rights you couldn't put up this ^%&$% stain of a video RIGHT? and in closing talking about killing the most powerful man in our country is probably not the smartest thing to do i strongly think I'm going to call The Department of Homeland Security!"

Then the same individual posted again saying:

"EXPECT A PHONE CALL?"

Well we never got one. But when the same opportunity to get in trouble presented itself again, we just had to try.

@Samuel
We did get a new mike. We were using both in fact. The lav was on Brett's tie and the boom was back up on the camera. But something went terribly terribly wrong. Sounded great in the headphones when we filmed it and then it wasn't. Hmmm.

I'm not sure which I wanted more, Pres Obama's SOTU address to be as short as your show, or your show to be as long as Pres Obama's SOTU address. I'll stick with your show. I would love to see the "transparency", but I won't hold my breath for that. I feel bad for the Supreme Court Justices having to sit there emotionless and not respond to.... oh wait, thanks Justice Alito. A prime example of all sides not getting along. Obama could have issued a carefully worded statement disagreeing to the Court's ruling, but not during SOTU. And Alito needed about four more seconds of control. Overall, a decent speech, but I just don't have much confidence it's going to get the two main combatants working together to move in a positive direction. Unless, of course, Obama and Congress politely move toward the center a little. Again, not holding my breath.

Also great job on the new website design, it was fun to see all of the glitches and bugs appear when you guys were changing it.

Woohoo, third! Oh, that's not exactly something to brag about...right...

Anyway, great episode! I hope we can all change our thinking for the better and then to stick to *our* guns. Then we'll choose our leaders better and not have this moral downward spiral in all walks of life like we do now. Making ourselves better on the inside will make America better on the outside. Just wanted to share that. :)

Thanks again for another great episode! Keep 'em coming.!

Wow there is so much I can say about this, however it is 1:15 now, here, so I'll wait to the morning to write a response. (one point I would like to make is Obama said all troops will be out of Iraq (or was it Afghanistan(doesn't much of a difference for my point)) by August. I'm not sure how that can be said, the war is over when we win and there is no way to know when that will be)
