Here’s something I would do, to get into 22…

I don’t totally know what the financial difficulty is, other than the economy is bad, you’re both self employed, and this means that you really need to bust your humps to make ends meet till things improve. Leaving little to know time to do research for the show.

How’s this for a proposal? I would like to offer up my services, as staff researcher. I will gather information for you, free of charge for you to put together the shows with. I’ll even help write the scripts, if I can, though, I think you guys are far more amusing than I am. You guys pick the topic, and I’ll dig for info on it, and submit it to you, so that part of the work, is already done. Then, all you would have to do, is work out the script, and record it. You could easily do this in the evenings, for a once a week, or possibly even biweekly show, allowing you all the time you need to go out, and earn cash to take care of your families.

If you’re interested, please let me know, and fill me in on your sources for data, and what your process is, so I can do things, the way you like to have them done.

I eagerly await your response.

I’ve made comment before… But, and without trying to be a salesman… (i’m the help desk guy at my company) Check out Firespring.com. We’re a website marketing company and we do a lot of well… website marketing. We actually do franchises now… base on our model, and for a long time have dealt primarily in the print shop market… but are now expanding, slowly, into a wide variety of places. Judging by your company… no your real company… this might be a different fit eventually. Please take a look and think about it… might help with those client numbers etc. Anyway… I love your show, i’m sad to see it go… and I would like to at least point at the door for you all, even if it’s not the best fit… Yay economy, but friends in different business locations go a long way. Firespring.com… we actually are pretty cool… considering how geeky most of us are.

I could describe the way that I’ve found to “beat” the squares.

It’s sort of hard to explain without using examples, but basically you add the next odd number to the last outcome of the square.

That may sound confusing, but think of it this way:

Zero squared is zero, right?
And one squared is one.
To get to one from zero, you add one.
Now, two squared is four.
To get to four from one you add three.

No matter how far you go, this will always work.

Not that this will ever really help you on any math tests, but it’s still an interesting tidbit to know.

Dear Guys I Ought to Know,

Okay, so here’s the deal. I have spent the fortnight or so watching every episode of your show. It’s amazing, I love it. I’ve posted it all over MySpace, Facebook, and even LiveJournal. The second I saw the episode where your audience was supposed to email you about how much they loved the show, I was so excited to do it. However, my boyfriend was there and he is kinda lame and he wanted to not sit around waiting for me to send emails. Whatever. Anyway, I have amazing ideas about how I can get in to this secret [22] business. One being that my aforementioned lame boyfriend is from San Diego too, so the next time we go down there (I live in Berkeley), I would love to come visit your studio and admit you into MY secret club. It’s called The Atlantis Society and it’s an organization dedicated to those with a common interest in adventure, secrets, legend, treasure, exploration, invention, the ocean, our world, and other worlds. Pretty cool, right? I bet you want to join. Technically there’s nothing to it right now, but I’ve just started working on it and it is fine gentlemen such as yourselves that are the ideal candidates for such a membership! Benefits include… being my friend… and possibly reaping the rewards of sponsorship should I ever become wealthy and/or do something with my life (other than watching enlightening internet shows).

The second idea I had is that my best friend’s father has a plane, so if we decided to fly down to San Diego, he would probably be willing to show you the plane and maybe even take you up as a copilot. Hell, he did it for me, and I have no idea how to fly whatsoever. It was a great experience. We flew over Gilroy, saw a whale expelling water from its blowhole around the Santa Cruz boardwalk, and we landed in the Monterey Peninsula Airport to go to the aquarium. It was excellent. I need only to enlighten him of the good you’re doing for intellectual kind. And beg. And plead. I will make it happen though, guys. It’s how I do. Let me know if you’re interested.

OK, so my husband and I decided to have some fun and act like kids again and try some of the crazy 12 days of Christmas ideas…we of course documented them on video in the hopes of one being cool enough to send you and maybe get in to [22] for our efforts.

Well, the only one worth mentioning was the clothespin guns. Not only did my husband make quite a few very awesome clothespin guns, but my brother pointed out that he had heard you could fire matches from them and they would light when they are shot. Well, it was raining here during Christmas, so no fear of starting a forest fire (I should mention that my husband is a full-fledged Eagle Scout and has some kind of chip that says he can play with fire)…anyway, they decided to try it in the spirit of what you ought to know and well…it worked!! Now, they joked about soaking the things in flammable liquid, but in the spirit of keeping things safe for the kids inside they just did it with regular matches and we got a few good videos of them shooting the matches from the guns =)

My hubby insisted I contact you and see if the video of him and my moronic brother would be enough to get me in…

Maybe??

Please?!?! If not, I’m afraid I’ll have my husband and his dad trying to make one of those battery cars out of a motorcycle battery and a few wires (his dad is an electrical engineer and a kid at heart..and he’s retired with nothing else to do!!) So please save me and my kids from having to collect hubby’s life insurance early and let me in…I”m sure my husband will be willing to do even more crazy replications of future shows to keep me in!!

I have only about 13 people in my physics class, and a pretty young teacher. I convinced her to show the Atom Smasher and Didgeridoo videos in class before we began our lesson. We continued watching several other videos for fifteen minutes – and now my classmates are hooked! Every other day or so one of my classmates would ask if I had seen this episode or that one. All of them watched at least a few at home, and now some are as addicted as me!

Even if that doesn’t get me into 22, I must say that I am so happy I found WYOTK on YouTube. The two of you make the best videos!

I found your site today, just by accident, and it’s great. First I thought Oh no, another bunch of nerds trying to be funny… then I realized, that you ARE funny. And that you give me some food for thought as well.

Well, guys, I’ve already done something that should get me into your secret society… even though I wasn’t doing it for you or to get anywhere. I’ve completely changed myself. I went from a 27-year-old virgin and wuss, who’d never been kissed in his life to a man who’s in control of his life and whom women like just for who he is now. It took me less then three years and I know that in my life I’ll never ever do anything more amazing or awesome than this.

Nibiru (planet x): lots of good sources for this…a lot on youtube

Election fraud and how exactly John Kerry got negative 10,000 votes in one district…There was a good HBO special on this that was originally done by a group of nosey grandmothers digging through the trash, finding discarded polling receipts (signed by poll workers – a felony to discard) and noticed that they did not match the official numbers, and many more examples.

FEMA camps: began to be setup in the late 1990s and have now increased in number across the country…current estimates are at around 800. They have tall razor ribbon fences with the razor wire facing in, rail stations, gas chambers, and some have stacks of tens of thousands of plastic coffins in or around them. There is also video footage of UN prisoner trains with shackels on the floors sometimes seen in these camps…

There are a lot of bad things going on right now and you are in a good position to investigate them and share the truth…whateverit may be. Email me if you want more info on any of these topics for movies…I can go on for hours…

I’m not really sure why I’m trying to be in your secret society because I normally avoid that kind of thing, but you look fun and your videos are both entertaining and informative, so I thought “what the heck”.
I think that because your video content is very eclectic, then your club membership should be also, so I’d like to present myself for membership on the following grounds: I’m a British woman, with a Polish name. My father is English (with a Portugese great-grandfather) and my mother is German. I live in France, I’m married to a Frenchman, who has an Italian aunt, a Spanish aunt and family in Quebec and my brother-in law is Spanish. I don’t suppose you have many members with the same pedigree, so I think that you should let me be in your club.
If ‘being’ isn’t enough and I have to ‘do’ something then let me know and I’ll try again. :-)

I think that the fact that I am a young pastor of a church in Florida is pretty outrageously awesome. That is a lifetime body of work that supercedes pretty much anything else. Well, after all I don’t really want to be part of your secret society. I just didn’t know where else to post the following. Please excuse my bad English, I’m from Munich, Germany – as if you were interested in me.
I really love you show. It’s the greatest video podcast I know of. The best shows you ever made were the ones in the Open Mind Week (Racism, Liberals vs. Conservatives, Global Warming, …).
So in return I decided to let you know something that YOU ought to know. It’s incredible how uncreative you can be. (Well, not you, let’s say “one” – or let’s call him Ethan.). There is a new show in the Revision3 (maybe you’ve heard of them, they produce all kinds of internet tv shows) Beta network. It’s called – and here it’s getting interesting – “What Should You Know” – WSYK. Great idea, isn’t it? Why can’t you guys be that creative?
The content of the show is a stupid guy called Ethan Bloch talking way too loud. Oh, and – surprise, surprise – there are a lot of cuts showing him from different perspectives. I think, I’ve seen that somewhere else… Which of course doesn’t mean that you’re a stupid hyperactive guy – what I meant are the cuts which by the way work perfectly in your show.
In Germany when something or someone is really ugly we say one gets “Augenkrebs” – in English ‘eye cancer’. I don’t know how I’ve come to that association right now. But I suppose you get what I wanted to tell you.
So… (I’ve always wanted to say this) that’s what you ought to know.
Since I’m pretty sure you are not going to answer me, I just wanted to let you know again that you guys are great. And if you want me to be part of your secret society you have to persuade me that it’s a cool thing to be in. Perhaps reversed psychology works. Just kidding.

Here is the deal… I am going to do nothing but give you an idea for the coolest show… Ever! Ok so Since I cannot figure out how to send this idea to myth busters (smiles big) I am sending it to you! Here is the problem… Gas prices are way too high. And since I am cheep like that. When I start to drive I do not want to use gas. Not only does it cost more now than I want to pay, but gas will not always be here! So if I buy a V6 I am screwed cause I would rely and always will rely on gas! But since I am going to buy a converted disel car (one that will run on Vegetable oil). I am in the clear. That brings us to your part. I LOVE APPLE JUICE! Can you run a converted disel car on it? If not apple juice, milk, water, or liquor? Pick a number of liquids to test. There are a few rules. 1) you cannot use any kink of oil (cause oil and water dont mix) 2) One of things you try has to be apple juice! 3) (this is a tip) turn on the car and jump out, just in case the car blows up (it’s only cool if you are alive to see it). 4) If any of the liquids work, you have to add me into [22]!

A friend and I have started putting together a WYOTK website. It’s basically an encyclopedia of everything about the show.

Once we get it up and running we’ll open it up to the public (or at least the 22′s/members?) so that everyone can edit it, but we’d like to get a few things in place first.

About a year ago I took a Psychology / Neuroscience class on sensation and perception. While I was there I showed the professor your episode of Peppers and Pain. Now that episode is part of his lecture section on the sense of taste. Recently I tried to get the same professor, who also runs one of the Neuroscience labs on campus, to buy a bunch of the I (Brain) U T-shirts for the lab staff. Not as much success there. The most outrageous thing I have done lately would be finally standing up for my self at my workplace and telling my boss and supervisor to #@X!*& off and walk out the door. I finally realized that at 37 years old, I no longer need to be somebodies whipping horse and take the crap that has been handed out. I am a paralegal for a very prestigious law firm in Seattle and have eaten shit for too long. It is time for me to make myself happy and move on. I truly believe we are where we put ourselves, literally and figuretively, so I am putting myself somewhere else. By the way, completely out of character for me. I sent some people this message, tricking them into thinking dihydrogen monoxide is a harmful chemical, when it’s actually just water. Every fact in the message is true, just not in the way you’d think. Here’s the message:

Most of these deaths are caused by accidental inhalation of DHMO, but the dangers do not end there. Prolonged exposure to its solid form causes severe tissue damage. -as an industrial solvent and coolant.

-in nuclear power plants.

-in the production of styrofoam.

-as a fire retardant.

-in many forms of cruel animal research.

-in the distribution of pesticides. Even after washing, produce remains contaminated by this chemical.

-as an additive in certain “junk-foods” and other food products.

Ban dihydrogen monoxide, before it’s too late!”

But I would like to point out that there’s a scientific debate about HIV/AIDS; whether HIV is really the cause of AIDS. This isn’t being covered in the media at all, it’s a dogma, yet the HIV/AIDS hypothesis affects the whole world in a significant way. So people like me who want to improve the quality of science have to use the internet to spread awareness and support scientific debates.

I am an optometrist in the state of Oregon but don’t let that scare you off; I have no affiliation with any near sighted Posse Comitatus group.
My useful and educational idea is beneficial not only for me and my secret quest but for your goals to educate the world (if not to make a few measly bucks) and for my patients to be educated and expose to your program.
I propose that a “What You Ought To Know” pamphlet be created that has your charismatic mug on the front (or at least just the WYOTK title) along with 2 to 3 weblinks to your specific “eye related” program. Not just any ol’e program but programs/episodes that relate to education “stuff” pertaining to eyes, such as “what the heck really is macular degeneration or a program dispelling eye health myths, or “Myopia versus Hyperopia” or etc etc.
So, what that means, a possible collaboration to design a simple “WYOTK” brochure for my literature rack in the waiting room for all patients to see and partake, and for you to do a few shows of ocular interest that can be referenced on the brochure. Free advertisement for you (naturally expected as indicated by you), educational opportunities for my patients to click in on your show, more WYOTK material for you to do and research, and my grand prize of membership in a secret society (sinners!) will be the results of the proposition. *Cracks knuckles to prepare for secret society handshake

ok, I figure it’s not a good idea for me to carry through with my master plan anymore as there’s some who don’t seem to appreciate my humor and I don’t want to upset anyone so even though this is long and not a comment on the video itself, I thought I’d post it for your amusement and to dig myself out of the hole I’m in. This
was what I had planned but can no longer feel right about seeing it through. Forgive me. And come on! don’t yell at me for the long post sheesh… lighten up, it’s a fun site!

Here it is: My 3 Step Master Plan

Step 1: Start a new club in opposition to club 22. Controversy always gets interest and participation which shows my willingness to contribute to wyotk. Ok so I didn’t exactly start it, I just suggested it but that’s just an unfortunate detail.

Step 2: Convert the masses to hating cookies. My contribution to good health for all. Remember the guy who quit smoking for his good health to get into 22? Now everytime they see a cookie, they’ll think of me and definitely not want one! I promoted good health for everyone! So everyone doesn’t yet hate cookies, or me I hope but yet another minor detail.

Step 3: Squash the UG Rebellion. Through my propaganda campaign I’ve shown my dedication and loyalty to the wyotk.com show by opposing the UG! Of course the problem is now to muster the troops to finish the job but I only have cookies to pay them off with and I’ve convinced them to hate cookies! Blast! A detail I hadn’t considered!

So Brothers Winn, the challenge is complete! Well sorta, it’s close… details, details. Now is THAT outrageous enough to get inducted into the 22 club?! But the thing too though is that I want to stay in the 207 club as well. Afterall I can hire myself out as a spy and really clean up on this deal.

And to 207, I really wasn’t being a traitor, honest, I was just trying to get into both clubs! Remember what I said, “no exclusivity for me”…remember…….. don’t hate me because I’m beautiful :D

THAT said, the TRUTH is I don’t really want to be in either club. I was just having fun and just want to keep enjoying the videos. To those who I may have offended I apologize profusely and to those who felt I may have deceived them, it wasn’t my fault! It was those fiends the UG! They made me do it! :D *propaganda campaign over*

Well you said that quitting smoking got someone in, will that work for me? I dont actually smoke now but I can start and smoke like 1 or 2 cigarettes then quit. Maybe ill just not start smoking, thats doing something.

Or I could work for a government agency like DARPA and help defend you. Will that work? If I get a job working for DARPA will you let me in? Also how should I prove I got the job, will sending you a picture of me in a bunch of DARPA clothes work?

Everytime you make an episode that applies to cross-generational groups o’ folks, I always share the information with a couple of the more lucid people at my job in a nursing home. (And because they’re almost completely deaf, in reality, I’m telling the entire building!) Because this particular age group is especially impervious to advances in technology, they can’t actually watch the show, but I’ll bet if you make an old-timey radio show, they’ll tune in because they sure are interested in what you’ve got to share!

I know it’s not as environmentally friendly as cleaning up a beach (which I apologize I’m not able to prove to you), but I think this is pretty cool.

I was looking up the show on Wikipedia, and was surprised to find it wasn’t there. I decided that I’d take some time out in the couple days before school started to make it for you guys.

My only problem is that I need a few refrences from other sites besides yours to put in the refrences, or else they’ll keep deleting it. If you happen to have any, that would be nice. I also have the HTML for the page I can give you if you need it.

I would hope this would be enough to get me into the [22], but if it isn’t, I understand.

My sister and i haven’t got a good relationship with eachother. Mainly because she has anorexia and is depressed and pissed off most of the time, even though when she does act normal its one of the nicest persons i know. At first i could handle it pretty well, but after that, i would also react to her as she did to me so worsening the situation.
What i will do is try to get the relationship with my sister back the way it used to be. I’l Also try to get her to a psychiatrist.

Maybe you could have a show about Anorexia?

Hi, I know it’s not important, but I’ve watched wyotk since about the beginning of it’s start. I never thought to much about the secret society until now. It seems like a lot of fun, and I’d like to join.

well when i discovered yall i went on a wyotk marathon and i really wanna get into the 22 and this year it’s going to be my first year at high school (life as a freshman horrible) and if i get in ill try my hardest not to be scared or have any panic attacks from being in a new enviornment with no one i know XD oh well if i dont get in i’ll still try not to faint or something because you know it would save me the embarrassment (school starts on the 11th for me) well have a nice vacation!!

Ok. After watching Body for Life, I realize that my first attempt (22 Klondike Bars in 22 days) borders on gluttony and wasn’t worthy. But, now I believe I have a good one, so here it goes. I own a retail store that does packaging and shipping (heaviest during December). For 22 days, December 1 through December 22, I will place a plain white label (1″ x 2 5/8″) bearing the WYOTK website address on every package that my store packs. Also, I will place the website address on the bottom of my register receipt tape, so every customer will receive the web address. As proof, or the best I can to prove this, I will ship an envelope to you at Titan Arts, LLC at the address I stalked via UPS ground with said label directly above the shipping label. Since I hooked my employee on this site, he’s more than willing to help, too. Please let me know what you think and I’m looking forward to your return in a couple weeks because I need more brain food.

I’ve recently been organizing a project with my friends. We go to the beach every summer as a fun trip and we always see a bunch of trash all over the beach. It kind of hampers our fun and gives us a very small area to play around. We’ve decided that each summer we’ll go to the beach earlier and pick up all the trash we can find, so it will be clean. We also decided that, since we cant go to the beach every day in between summers, we’ll do the same for our neighborhood and the surrounding area. It’s not an incredibly big task, but it’s what we can do.

I didn’t give any ideas yesterday so I’m going to give two today.
1. I’m a member of a site called Twilight Lexicon. Its about the Twilight Saga books by Stephenie Meyer (I know my names Steph too, but trust me it’s not me) which I’m a huge fan of by the way. If you haven’t read those books I highly recommend you do. Anyway I do a lot of blogging on there and you can put these cool little comments under your posts everytime you post. So I’m going to put a big one that sayes GO TO WHATYOUOUGHTTOKNOW.COM BECAUSE THEY ARE SO AWESOME!!

2. I’m going to try to name a star (that isn’t already named) after you guys. “Try” being the key word here. I really don’t know how it all works to name a star, but I’m going to do a lot of searching to find out. I’m going to call it WYOTK if I find out how to do it. Holly crap I got it…….Well here we go.
I am a Captain at the Salina Fire Department in kansas. As the Station captain I am incharge of many things. The 2 trucks at my satation, the 6 firefighters, and training. A few days ago I used your show on Body for life in one of my classes. There has been a lot of hub bub this past year about my department of 100 firefighters getting in better shape and I found it to be perfect. So here is my idea: I would like for you to have a show about Fire Safty\Prevention. It also seems to be kinda a big deal on what shirt you are wearing on the show(or maybe thats just me) but anyway I would send you a SFD T-shirt for you to wear while taping the show. If you think about it, if the show helps just one person, maybe even save their life, it would all be worth it. Even if I didnt get in the ELITE 22.

First I think I should explain my handle
which is “Kurz” meaning ‘briefly or short’ in German.
To explain how I came across it was when I was younger.
Which I got it of an anime character from “Full Metal Panic”

I think I’ve done something pretty impressive regarding how I drive.

Though I should mention where I came from when I first started driving at the tender age of 17.

I used to always speed 5+ the speed limit. Weaving in and out of traffic like a speed demon. All in a old and slowly dying 93 Ford Explorer .

After getting my last ticket I made an adjustment to my driving style. I did not want to burden my family any longer, since I shared insurance with them.

Then it became more about saving gas since that too was being payed by my folks at the time. Then the fact I was saving gas by going slower made both sides gas savings and law abiding click.

Then I saw your show on you tube and the secret society of 22.

It inspired me to do something more about my impact on my family finances, I bought my new car Rav4 2005 and started to pay for my own gas. My gas saving went into overtime (Exasperated also by the fact I am a Cheap Bastard).

The Rav4 has a MPG of 25 combined.
So I started with some techniques to improve that mileage.
Slowly the speed demon was replaced with one that was still competitive as hell. A bloody hypermiler competing for the best MPG possible.

Being a cheap bastard like I am I went further into the depths hypermiling. Striving to use the least amount of fuel become a big game to me. Still I go no slower than 5 miles under the limit (I don’t want to create enemies on the road).

Now I stand before you with my best tank of 36 MPG
And all my other tanks are 34-36 saving me about 20 bucks a fill up. Still beating my father in his Toyota Yaris.

So what will it be? Will you take a little crazy Hypermiler into your mist?
Maybe allow me to convert a few of you into my order?

Ok, so maybe I can’t be cool enough to get into the 22 (unless potentially doing shirts and artwork for you guys would be good enough)but I think my daughter might. Jesse is 3, and everyday after her nap she comes down and asks to watch “The funny guy who talks on the computer.” She is a HUGE fan of yours and she has a request. Lately she has been really getting frustrated by some of her friend’s because they don’t know what Bioluminescence is. Yeah, thats right, she has been trying to explain to her Sunday school class and anyone else who will listen to her about bioluminescent fish and phytoplankton and it frustrates her that they don’t, well um… care. So since you are on the computer and we listen to you every day, she figures you must be important and people will listen to and she would like you to do a show for her so all her friends can watch and become enlightened about this ever so fascinating biological phenomenon. She would also like you to do a show on chromosomes (when asked why shes a girl she will tell you its because she has 2 X chromosomes, and her brother is a boy because he has an X and a Y.) but I told her bioluminescence would be enough for right now.
Now heres what she will do for you, because she too wants to be in your “2 2s special club of friends” (2 is her favorite number and she loves that there are 2 of them in your secret society) She says that if you will let her “be your friend”, she will draw you a picture of a bioluminescent Angler fish to use as an example for your show and to hang on your fridge if you like.
So what do you think? (She would like a weeks notice so she can prefect her artwork please, she is a bit of a perfectionist)

All right… now that I know that you’re actually inducting people into [22], I’ll put aside my worries (i.e. stop being lazy) and actually try to think of something to do to join. And I’ll send you something I’d do every day, until you decide that I’m worthy. Which I am. So, suggestion number one:

I am rather talented at spray paint art. It’s a hobby that I decided to pick up this summer, and I’m not bad. If you let me be one of the approximately [22], I will make you three (count them, three!) posters in colors of your choosing and with a design of your choosing (so far I’m best at trees, but could easily manage “I brain you” or something else) and I’ll mail them to you. At least part of your studio has plain white walls, so I could help make the rest more interesting.

Dear Sirs,

I’ve thought long and hard about what to do to get into 22. I debated things like a tattoo (I have none currently) or naming my dog 22 (but his name is already Cooley, and he is large and easily confused). I also debated losing 22 pounds, but I have lost almost 90 since the beginning of the year (thanks for helping with the motivation), so another 22 seemed almost anticlimatic. Plus, I figure those are probably already done.

What I likely can do, though, is teach my 2 year old son, Karrick, to count to 22. Piece of cake, you may say, but not so. Karrick is a wonderful little guy, but he has some sensory integration issues that require some special attention. At any rate, I will admit that I have him to 10 already, so maybe I should have him count to 32…..hrmmm…that would be 22 more…..at any rate, it may take awhile, but I hope that anyone who is eventually allowed in will also be allowed to view “back secret episodes….

Oh, and I promise to make my 6 year old watch 22 episodes of What You Ought to Know….well, 22 more…..he really dug the Sugar Loving Teeth one.

hey, i have actually watched around 30 of your videos so far (how do you find the time to make so many?) anyway, i think they are so great, its like the first thing ive watched on youtube that actually seems like it was made by someone with a real brain….. I have actually written a 2 page paradox on how things are weird. ill explain EXTREMELY simply. basically the idea is that:

everything is normal, apart from a few weird things (which are wierd) but we only find them weird because everything else is normal, now if this weird thing was normal and everything else was weird then everything that is normal now would be weird and vice versa (trust me, it takes a good 5 minutes to get your head around that).

I actually made it because i felt the need to express myself about it, but now ive seen this it seems like the perfect place to submit, if you like i can send you some of it (to someone elses brain it might seem repetitive (same thing written in a different way)) but honestly, its not. or i can send you the whole thing, if you really want to question the way our world works (yes this does mean you will be weird afterwards).

okay, so I have gmail, which automatically means Brett won’t send me e-mail. So, the first thing would be to get another email account. But who? They all do it. And to complicate matters, I actually AM a terrorism expert. So I talk about it in my emails (see? I’m doing it now!). You’d be screwed. The FBI would be knocking on your door. Don’t let me in – really, its the only safe course. Then you have plausible deniability.

But let’s pretend you can get past that. Maybe. What would I do (besides the email thing). I don’t know that you’d be interested, but I could provide a copy of my doctoral dissertation (providing I finish the dratted thing – supposedly in October). It’s about terrorism.

Or I could provide extremely cute photos of my daughter (she’s cute. I’m not.).

Or – oh, this one is actually serious, and kinda good. I can hook you up with all the scads of info my friend has accumulated on autism while dealing with her autistic son – he’s actually making excellent progress. He was nearly catatonic at one point (around age 2), but is now (age 5, nearly 6), speaking in complete sentences, exhibiting social interaction, and generally regaining his ground. It’s a beautiful thing. (BTW – shameless suck up – Jason was awesome).

So, that’s it. I can’t really think of anything I can usefully do. Well, if you need political science type research done, I’m ace on that. Almost as if I’m getting a Ph.D. (I am).

And if that doesn’t work, I write smut in my spare time (like literary smut – you know, “romantic erotica”). [side note: who makes up these genre titles?!]

I understand that I probably wouldn’t do anything crazy enough to be admitted, but I just had to let you know what I think. First of all, I found the site about two months ago when the Glenn Beck Radio Show had your global warming episode highlighted on his daily newsletter. Finally, somebody else was saying what I say all the time.
Here’s the deal, I spent 11 years in the Navy, as a Submarine Sailor (Pretty Outrageous right). I enjoy all academic pursuits, and appreciate free thought instead of mindlessly following the drones. I get into arguments constantly about science/ and or political “hot-topics” because I tend to read both sides of a story.
I work as an instructor at a nuclear power plant, and appreciate when someone has good presentation skills, as you do. Your material is very well thought out and developed, drawing logical conclusions with excellent support. (not facts, since I don’t think there are any facts in science)
What would I do? watch every day, and NEVER post the absurd “First” comment. I also tell everybody about the show, and send out links as applicable based on past arguments.
Bottom line, Thank you very much for only putting out quality products, and working hard to do it. You guys truly represent American working spirit. You’ve got this Veteran’s endorsement!

OK, I know I’m not a commenter, but I am a loyal viewer of the show, and thought of an initiative that I hope will get me in!

I work in website development & marketing, and one important thing I tell clients is to purchase variations on their domain name. There are many good reasons for this…increased visibility, potential increase in search results. Often, the most compelling reason is, “you never know what’s going to end up at the domain you didn’t purchase.”

Hmm…as a side note, this could be an interesting show. What web domains are out there that are obviously not owned by the intended company/person? http://www.whitehouse.org comes to mind as a great example.

OK, enough rambling and to my point. I noticed you guys didn’t own wyotk.com. This seemed surprising, since it’s a nice shortcut to your show’s name, and it’s the first item on your META keyword list. SO, my hopefully awesome initiative was to purchase wyotk.com. You’re free to take it (I’d be happy to transfer it to you), or I’ll just leave it as-is (parked courtesy of godaddy.com) so some schmuck doesn’t take it and put up “What You Ought To Kill” or some porn site or something.

Like I said, what you do with it is up to you…but, hopefully this is enough to get in!

just watched ‘the way I do math’ and didn’t know where else to claim the prize for finding the mistake. In the video, you ask what is bigger, 8×29 or 15×19. Then you go on to solve the problem for 7×29 instead. I found this when I computed the answer my own way (15×20-15)-(8×30-8) and noticed the answers did not match. It is bigger by 53, not 82. so I went back and looked at your way of doing it and realized you confused which term to keep and which to throw away when dividing 15 into 7 + 8. Did I make it in time to be one of the first 22??

This is really clever. Surprisingly clever in fact, because it’s an ingenious way of inducing some curiosity in your members who weren’t fortunate enough to start watching on the 8th of February 2008.
“Tell us, what would you do to get into [22]?”
What would I do?
Good question.
I’d turn back time, right back to the 8th of February. I’d buy a new computer, my computer was broken so at the time I didn’t have a computer to watch YouTube on. I’d check my emails, as I always do. I’d reply to a couple, the ones that aren’t spam. Then I’d check my YouTube, it’s logical progression after all. I’d check those I subscribe to, MrAdamSir, is one of them and I’d view his video, in which he mentions you guys. I’d view a video of yours and I’d enjoy it. I’d watch your rant episode and then I’d go to theshow@whatyouooughttoknow.com and leave you a loving email detailing who I am and why I enjoy your show. The rest would be, as they say, history.
Isn’t it funny? That’s exactly what I’ve done today. So in fact I’m doing exactly what you told me to do, I’m just a little bit late. But you can’t really blame me for that can you?

Hey-
I found out about your show when it was featured on GlennBeck.com (global warming) and totally love it. I guess you can say I have become a “follower” of the show now, since I have watched many of your past videos too. Anyways, what I am trying to say is that the show is great, and definitely needs more exposure. I have emailed all my friends a link to the homepage; BUT I have a suggestion: have you thought about having a link on each showpage that would allow people to email a link to that specific show? You know, like on shopping sites, or news sites (cant think of any right now for a direct example). I think this would definitely increase word of mouth advertising, which in turn would increase doughnations, ect, ect.

You guys probably thought of this already, but just wanted to give my thoughts, and provide a reason I should be in [22].

Okay, so I started watching your guys’ show a couple months ago maybe, a absolutely _love_ it! I’ve been friends with Erin Abbott since 3rd grade and she said she’d send you guys an e-mail sponsoring me to get into [22], I’m not sure if she did or not, guess I’ll ask her later, but I thought I should tell you a bit about myself and as anyone without a sponsor would have to, suggest a cool thing I could do to get in.

A bit about myself, well, I turned 20 May 30th this year, and in April just finished Chemotherapy!!! I was diagnosed with leukemia on January 18th, 2006, I had graduated a semester early to start college at The University of Nebraska Lincoln, and 6 days into my first semester, was diagnosed, bleh, threw me and my family for a loop. Now, I’m done with chemotherapy, and cancer free, but have damage done to all of my bones, and here in the next year am looking at getting 4 of my joints replaced, left shoulder, right knee and both ankles… wow, okay, enough whining. On to my cool thing I’ll do to get in!

Well, other than school I was never all that good at very many things, but I have a couple of natural talents, one of those is drawing. If you like, I could draw a family portrait for you guys (knowing you’re brothers) I don’t know much about either of you, if you’re married, dating single, got kids, whatever, if you wanted it to be just the two of you, or your whole extended family, I wouldn’t mind. The more people/details the longer it’d take, but I love to draw and would love to do that for you guys, now I don’t know what your standards of good art are, but I don’t think I suck, and most the people I’ve shown my art to don’t think I do either, but I guess you’d get to be the judge. Let me know what you think, if it’s good enough to get in or not!

Did it ever occure to guys that ranting at people who actually listen might not do any good (at best) and be counter productive (at worst)? If people aren’t listening it is becasue they donot know the poscast exists or anything about it, because as you have pointed out, it is interesting, funny and actually helpful.

However, the title dosen’t really convey that. What you OUGHT to know sounds more like the dull, boring and ,the mostly useless thing they teach you classes you never wanted to attend, right?

Wat you guy give people ar things they need to know, things they want to know and things that are useful to everyone. If you want listeners, you need to do something that conveys that to people and short of changing the name, I don’t know what simplistic thing you can do that will automaticly get that across to people.

Word of mouth is fine – it’s just too slow to get you the ratings you are looking for. Get yourself on other podcasts. One good one it the 60 second how to. People who listen to that are going to be drawn to your show too.

Last suggestion – I love the sarcasm, but some people are a little . . um slow, so simle more often (like after you were just scrcastic) it helps those who mentlay function a little slower than others to ‘get’ the joke and not just assume you are being arriogant. Besides, you’re very attractive and you should play that up with a smile – often.

Hope you at least consider some of these things, keep up th great work – I love listening!

The appropriate question is not “what would I do to get in?” but rather “what would I do if I didn’t get in?” I would flood your suggestion box with stupid questions like “How often should one change his/her underwear?” or “Can picking one’s nose make his/her finger fall off?” Trust me, I’ve got hundreds more. If still not accepted, I would resort to posting random your-mama’s-so-fat jokes on the comment sections of the videos. If still not accepted…that’s for me to know and for you to find out ;)

Considering the Society is secret and I do not know what exactly it is for, it does not seem worth it to do something outrageous. Okay I can see that my initial offering isn’t cutting it with you. So here is a list of things I would do in order to get into [22]
-
1, Break one of my personal taboos (i.e. wear tights, shave my head, and all the other things I promised myself I’d never do . . . again).
2, Take a folk dance, line dance, or ballet class (all three of which I loath and look down upon).
3, Present my own original pieces in a Beatnik, Slam, or Haiku poetry reading. (of course I’d have to write some first)
4, Prove the Caine – Hackman Theory. (If you don’t remember what that is, watch PCU)
5, Participate as a guinea pig for one of the human experiments in the Neuro-Science Labs.
6, Go to a halloween party dressed as something incredibly geeky and damaging (Anything Starwars Star Trek, WarCraft, StarCraft, Halo, or LORT oriented. Or I could just dress up as something really freaky like Ash from Army of Darkness, the director in Waiting for Guffman, or Mary Queen of Scots – complete with corset)
7, Write a persuasive essay about how Post Feminist Poetry rocks (I’d have to take BSing to a whole new level to pull that one off).
8, Research the subject for, write, film, edit, and produce my own episode of WYOTK.
9, Get a full body wax treatment including: chest, back, legs, and bikini wax (and you remember how hairy I am).
10, Streak a BYU football game (assuming I could do so with impunity and not get expelled for it).

There it is. Its not exactly in a specific order, but it did take me quite a while to come up with all of that. Is this good enough for you guys?

As far as what I would do I am not sure what I wouldn’t do… I know I can’t afford to do much in the way of things that would cost too much like buying a lot of t-shirts and selling them in my area (although I might be able to turn a profit and donate that to you) however I would defiantly be willing to buy a t-shirt that just has your logo and/or website info on it and wear it in public as much as I can. I could also do my best with discussing ideas for future episodes. I could also (when i get enough money saved up to visit cali) stop by the studio and beg ya in person :D

As far as I have done I’ve participated in everything that has came along where you asked for input as of the day I started watching (after 22 started) i was one of the winners for the thing at the end of your math video and I’ve submitted an e-mail trying to get in before and figured I would try again. I have tried to get several of my friends to watch the show I’ve gotten most of them to at least watch some of the episodes but none are into it as much as me.

I deserve to join [22] because last month I spent two days and went back through all the archives and watched every single episode I missed before I discovered WYOTK. I am up to speed and have not missed checking in every day. I even got a little depressed when you took some time off which felt like an eternity. I was worried after the first week what I would do if you never came back. Where would I get my daily info/comdic fix. Ask a ninja just seems so lame now. My doctor said some Prozac might help but I found Diet Mountain Dew pulled me through your vacation. I also e-mail the very best episodes to my cool friends and family. I am in this for the long haul!

Well for starters, I’m sure that maiming the population to a manageable count so that all our nonrenewable resources won’t diminish as quickly as it stands at this current point in time is not going to allow my access into [22], but I guess it could be a start.

By nature and profession, I am a computer programmer. I’m not sure if that actually has any merit towards anything, but hey, it’s always good to have a techno-geek or several kicking around, right?

Anyways, what I would do to get into [22], save for massacring, would be considered something of epic proportions. I will quit smoking. That’s right. I said it. I will show my devotion to [22] by quitting an addictive substance that I’ve been drawn to for the past 5 years. If proof is required, I will present it.

What I want to do is start a web show (seriously) that would be an extension of some of the thoughts and ideas that would come from this show. Additionally, some of the content would be just for fun. Such as…I saw a show that demonstrated how stamps are made. At the end they showed the stamp (as in US Postal) being shipped out. I was just wondering what they used for postage to ship the stamps out. If this sounds like I am ripping the show off, I am not. I just think it would be fun. I am not sure if I have a lot of experience making films or web shows (I just put my first one on youtube the other day) but I think it would be fun. By the way, the youtube film was a school project called “A Short History of Printing” Have Fun!

Okay here’s the deal, My vehicle regisration expires at the end of this month and I have been considering paying for custom plates when I go in to renew my tags.

In exchange for secret society membership I will request my plates to read “wtuo2no” or possibly “wyotk”, heck if you have a better sugestion I’ll use that instead.

Think of the advantages, you’ll get free advertising, (because every time someone asks about my license plates I’ll be forced to explain it) and in return I get insider acsess to the psychological inner workings of your guys’ minds.

I was ironing when I was thinking of this, and “Iron my hands for Harry Potter” came to mind; but I won’t do that. It would make clicking around on your site a lot harder.

Well first I wouldnt do anything outrageously awesome, im just not wired that way. But what I would do is keep telling people I meet to watch your show.( I would do it anyway). Im a avid Glen Beck watcher and he put your show on his sight, I watched it and the rest is history. To get into [22], I would do…nothing. You heard me: nothing. And now that you’ve heard me, hear me out.
At the precise moment that I’ll be doing nothing, I WON’T be:
A) Driving around ANYWHERE – a big plus for the environment;
B) Watching “the dramatic chipmunk” on YouTube…or any of said chipmunk’s spawn, both natural and virtual;
C) Texting anyone with grammatically incorrect phrases such as “watup i iz brb” or using any form of the acronym “lol;”
or D) Spraying anyone with the barbarian rhinovirus germs that seem to have colonized in my nasal passages during the night…
…or basically doing ANY activity that would hinder the human race in any way. (I may be negatively effecting the economy by sitting here all idly and…non-spendingly, but it’ll balance itself out.)
So really, the pure act of my doing nothing is really one of the most beneficial things that I can do for my society! (Or at least it won’t make me feel like a guilty sod.) Hence, through sheer gratitude for my decision not to jeopardize mankind, you should let me into [22]. But only if we get dental.

I love love your show I would make my kids watch your shows (which I already do, does thats till count?) Hmm… what would I do to get into the spectacularly awesome (and exclusive) “22″?

Well, I would research on how to put images on balloons. Once I figure that out, it’s all a matter of time before I figure out to put little tiny heads of yours on to the balloon.

The guy in front of the camera’s picture is easy. I would probably pick one of which you are grinning broadly. The guy behind the camera is a different story.

You know when TGIFOTC (the guy in front of the camera) is talking about how TGBTC (The guy behind the camera)will never be in front of a camera and the dude (yes, dude) with a grayish pillow cover is over his head pops up? I believe that I would use that image, even if it is TGBTC or not.

Then, you make about three copies of each, go to the store and fill them with the popular gas of helium (It’s lighter then air!) and deliver them to your studio with chocolates or something. There can’t be to many studio’s in southern California, right?

Of course, that isn’t enough. I knock on the door, wait with my balloons and chocolates. Go over the lyrics in my head and then when you open the door I clear my voice and begin to sing.

Well i’ve been watching the show since the end of march (i missed the rant episode otherwise I would have written in because you guys rule)

Unfortunately I’ve been so busy with my college work and working for the my client base i’ve not written in much with any ideas for shows or other things.

I have been working on collecting a series of “quotes” from the episodes which always make me smile, even if i’m not watching the episode it still makes me giggle, which can be rather embarrassing when i’m on the bus to college and everyones sat staring at me thinking “You’re crazy!”

I was going to put on on a t-shirt but then decided not to as I didn’t have your guys permission and again I might get some funny looks.

The quote was from the episode where you had been to N.Y to buy some apples and at the very end of the episode you were testing the note and I quote “its so tight”….. Still makes me laugh now.

I’d like to make the t-shirt now that i’ve kind of asked permission but its raining rather alot over here (Nottinghamshire England) Yay the English summer!

The idea I had for a show was to look at the different types of bows in archery and I’ve even got a website that shows you how to make a longbow, which is pretty cool.

I’ll email you with the idea rather than filling all of this with the idea.

Other than that i’ve shown about 7 people the show (mum, dad, sister, brother, girlfriend and three of my mates at college) of all of them only two watch the show regularly.

I hate to say it but my girlfriends a “hater” and complains whenever I make her watch an episode…. even if it is educational.

Non the less i’ve subscribed to the podcast and I was planning on buying some of the images you had on the donations page when I got paid this month but I’ll be buying a t-shirt instead…. just to raise a few eyebrows and because it questions the whole idea of valentines day, while yet still supporting it!

Apparently the definition of a secret society is where its members are sworn to secrecy about its activities, so there’s no rules on not taking new members so long as no-one else knows about what happens in the society.

And I also found out that the first secret society…. although not very secret was Krypteia.

The krypteia was an ancient right of passage where spartan men aged 18. Who had completed their education where armed only with a knife were sent naked into the countryside in search of revolts and misdeeds and were ordered to survive by any means necessary. Those who survived were welcomed with open arms into the spartan army although many perished during the right of passage.

And the worlds largest secret society is that of the freemasons. Which started in England during the 1300’s now over 600 years later it has over 6 million members, and to become a member you only have to have a reference from one current member, be over 18 years of age, be of sound mind and believe in a “supreme being” although due to its size it is one of the most known of secret societies and has many theories about its existence and members views.

An interest quote I found was by Benjamin Franklin when he stated “Three may keep a secret if two of them are dead” pretty harsh but at the same time questions human nature for people to either become members of secret society members.

That way more people will start watching and then you guys could let me in, and would still be exclusive :P.

Am I really joining 22? REALLY. Because it is so cult-like. Like the ancient Hebrews exiting Egypt into a world of clamity only that I am exiting reality into a world of What I Ought to Know. Because you haven’t spoke about bed bugs eating our culture and if dogs are really color blind. What really sets us apart from other animals? I could say I watch every single episode but that like saying …eh. Nevermind it’s not really a secret if everyone is trying to join.

Because:
-Star is no longer a freakish Nazi psycho about global warming and she loves the show so dearly.
-The show is a great brain warmer in the morning.
-The white background is more distracting than your facial expressions
-You obviously don’t know how to pronounce Navajo words (Dangerous Boys)
-You have a posse following in Israel.
-One of the few gays who hasn’t made an awkward lust comment on your videos.
-Who IS the camera guy?
-Because I know. I know…
-Bad taste in t-shirts and the clothing you wear.
